Greed for power by AAP and BJP yet again stall the Mayoral election in the MCD : Ch. Anil Kumar

NEW DELHI, January 24, 2023 Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee president Ch. Anil Kumar said that both the BJP and the Aam Aadmi Party, in their greed for power, have betrayed the people of Delhi by creating a ruckus in the MCD House yet again, to force the presiding officer to indefinitely postpone the Mayoral election at the Civic Centre, after the  newly-elected 250 Municipal Councillors and the members nominated by the Lt. Governor were sworn-in.

Ch. Anil Kumar said that it was highly condemnable that the Aam Aadmi Party and the BJP, who indulged in hooliganism to postpone the swearing-in of the newly elected Councillors on January 6, 2023, repeated the same scenario this time too, which was an insult to the people of Delhi who elected the AAP and BJP Councillors in the MCD election on December 4, 2022 for providing them proper administration of the Corporation by effectively tackling the civic issues and people’s concerns. He said that it was shocking that without an elected body in power, the MCD was being run by officials, thus defeating the very purpose of holding elections to the MCD to bring in a new body to the helm of administration.

Ch. Anil Kumar said that the people of Delhi had given a clear mandate to the AAP in the MCD election, yet it was so unsure of taking formal charge of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi, fearing that it will not be able to fulfill any of its promises, has buckled its responsibility by indulging in hooliganism with the BJP Councillors to force the presiding officer to adjourn the House sine die.

Ch. Anil Kumar said that Delhi’s air and water continue to deteriorate as the Kejriwal Government has failed miserably to tackle this menace, and  the clash in the MCD House for the second time was to divert people’s attention from AAP’s governance failures in Delhi, which will  have a cascading effect in the MCD too, if AAP takes formal charge in the Corporation.

Ch. Anil Kumar said that when Congress was in power in the Delhi Government and BJP won the MCD elections, there was no clash when BJP took charge of the Municipal Corporation, as the prime concern of the Sheila Dikshit-led Congress Government in Delhi was to serve the interest of the people of Delhi and good governance in both the Delhi Government and  the MCD to benefit  the people.
