THUMRI FESTIVAL BEGINS ON A MELODIOUS NOTE

The 3-day long Thumri festival will go on till 28th August 2022 with many renowned artists coming together to promote this musical form

New Delhi, 26th August 2022: Thumri festival has one of the renowned annual properties of Sahitya Kala Parishad. This year the festival went on-ground after a long time. The 3-day musical event kick started on Friday at Kamani Auditorium, Mandi House and will go on till 28th August 2022.

This musical festival that represents the melodious journey of Hindustani classical music saw a great artist line-up on day one. The first performance was by the extremely versatile singer Pt. Bholanath Mishra’s performance who presented Nritya Bhaav bandish thumri with the lyrics ‘Hatho jao jao hatho, maano mori baat saaiyan.’ His next presentation was a Vilambit Thumri in Jat Taal and Raag Tilak Kamod ‘arre bedardi saiyaan, kahe jaane dil ki baat’ followed by a Khamaj Dadra on ‘Ladai gaui re piya re mose naina.’ He ended his performance with a Khajri. The second performance of the day was Madhumita Ray who follows the Gwalior-Rampur format in her presentation. During the event, Madhumita presented Thumri in Raag Mishr Maaj Khamaj; Dadra in Raag Pilu Gara; Jhoola & Kajri. The first day of the event came to an end with Indrani Mukherjee’s performance who was excited to be at the Thumri Festival after being a part of the 2017 edition. Indrani Mukherjee presented the Purab Ang Thumri that is characterized by grace, tenderness and delicate tonal embellishment.

Delhiites will witness performances by eminent artists like Dr. Rita Dev, Sonali Bose, Kakali Mukherjee. Indresh Mishra, Sunanda Sharma and Padma Shri Shubha Mudgal on the second and third day of the festival.
