Rs 50,000 Salary Per Month + Allowances Worth Lakhs: Here’s How Much an Indian MP Earns

New Delhi, July 19: Time and again, Parliamentarians have demanded a hike in their salary and this time has been raised by Samajwadi Party MP Naresh Agrawal in the Rajya Sabha. Each Parliamentarian gets a monthly salary of Rs 50,000 during the whole term of office. Apart from salary, an MP gets a number of allowances every month like medical, housing, telephone facilities etc and for regulating the payment of daily and travelling allowances under The Salary, Allowances and Pension of Members of Parliament Act, 1954.

Here is the list of allowances enjoyed by an PM:

Daily Allowance: If an MP signs the Parliament register every day, then he gets Rs 2,000 per day.

Constituency Allowance: An MP gets Rs 45,000 per month for work in his/her constituency.

Office Expense Allowance: An MP gets another Rs 45,000 per month to meet monthly meeting expenses. Out of it, Rs 15,000 is for stationery items and postage and Rs 30,000 is paid to the member engaged for secretarial assistance.

Travelling Allowance: A member is entitled to travel allowances when he/she is travelling for official duty from the usual place of residence to the place of duty and for return journey from such place to the usual place of residence.

By Rail: One free non-transferable First class AC or Executive class of any train pass. An MP is also entitled to one First class and one Second class fare. The spouse is entitled to travel in first class air-conditioned or executive class in all the trains with the member throughout the country.

By Air: One and one-fourth air fare of the airlines in which the member travels. Every member can avail 34 single air journeys during a year with spouse or any number of companions or relatives. The spouse/companion can travel alone eight times in a year to meet the member.

By Road: An MP is entitled to Rs 16 per km.
