Jul 19 Contending that the national capital was suffering due to three separate municipal bodies, a Lok Sabha member today demanded their reunification.
Raising the issue during the Zero Hour, Maheish Girri, BJP MP from East Delhi, said while the MCD cleaned the sewers before the monsoon, but those managed by the Delhi government were yet to be cleaned. This has resulted in flooding of several areas, he alleged.
Girri also demanded imposition of President’s Rule in the national capital over the issue.
“The Delhi is on the path of destruction. The MCD cleans the gutters, but the main nallas are not being cleaned,” Girri alleged.
He claimed that unlike other MCDs, East Delhi was largely unorganised which also hurt the overall revenue generation.
This, he noted, also led to constant strikes by the MCD workers, leading to Delhi becoming a “house of garbage”.
“All the three MCDs should be again reunified,” Girri demanded.
The MCD in Delhi was trifurcated in 2012 by the then Congress government under Sheila Dixit into East, North and South zones. All the three MCDs are ruled by the BJP.
