Ragini Chandrashekhar, the renowned young Bharatnatyam dancer is the daughter of senior dancer Jamuna Krishnan who has also been her guru. A post graduate in English, Ragini has performed in many parts of the world and is training young aspirants at the Kalangan centre for classical arts, New Delhi. She is known amongst the finest Bharatnatyam dancers of the younger generation and also an accomplished classical singer.
In 2010, she was conferred with the highly prestigious ‘Ustad Bismillah Khan Yuva Puruskar Award’ by the ‘central Sangeet Natak Akademi’ as well as the title of ‘Yuva Kala Bharti’ by Bharat Kalachar, Chennai.
In her performance career of over 25 years, she has performed at several prestigious venues and festivals. A few of these include The Jhansi Mahotsav, The Yuva Mahotsav of Sahitya Kala Parishad and The Pongal Dance Festival. She has also performed in China, Paris and Spain to name a few.
She is a senior empanelled artist with the ICCR. A film made on Ragini ji’s choreographic interpretation of the theme ‘Cycle of the life’ was screened during the Franchophonic week and drew rave response.
She has performed the leading role in a student film makers’ project Swayam that won critical acclaim at festivals worldwide. As a regular performer for Spic Macay, she has also given lecture demonstration on Bharatnatyam in various educational institutes.
She is accompanied by Shri S Shankar on Nattuvangam, Shri K Venkateshwaran on vocals, Shri MV Chander Shekhar on Mridangam and Shri Anirudh Bhardwaj on flute.
