Rail Passengers Now Can Enjoy Free HD Movies, Web Series At Railway Stations And On Moving Train

Indian Railways is now providing the facility of free video streaming to passengers. Its purpose is to make travelers’ journey more exciting. At the moment, it will be started as a pilot project on a few stations only. Under this service, passengers will be able to watch movies, TV serials, news in high quality on their mobile or tablet, it will be completely free. The most important thing is that passengers will be able to use this service in the station as well as on the moving train.

Indian government’s Minister of Railways and Commerce & Industry, Piyush Goyal informed the people through the tweet and said that: ‘Passengers will love this!

Soon, stream your favourite movies, shows and music on trains and stations.’

According to the report, Indian Railway has joined hands with RailTel to make this project successful, which has been providing free Wi-Fi facilities to passengers at the railway station earlier. Other details of this project are yet to be officially confirmed.

‘RailTel will provide preloaded multilingual content; movies, music videos, general entertainment including TV serials and devotional programmes, lifestyle-related etc in moving trains,’ a railway official told revealed.

‘In trains, to ensure buffer-free services, media servers will be placed. Passengers will be able to enjoy high-quality buffer-free streaming across personal devices and the content will be periodically refreshed,’ he added.

While, Puneet Chawla, the CMD of RailTel said that Rana Pratap Nagar railway station of Ajmer division in Rajasthan became the 2000th station in the country to have free internet facility, ‘Our team is working round the clock and with each passing day execution pace is only increasing. Yesterday we made 74 stations live and while we speak some more stations are being made live with free wifi which is an incredible feat for us,’ he gave the official statement.

RailTel is a MiniRatna or a public sector enterprise that looks after giving broadband and VPN services. Initially, this task was given to RailTel but the Railway Boards then gave it to the zonal railways. However, again it is given to RailTel.
