Government to move to SC for reservation in AMU and JMI

New Delhi: Government will file a petition in Supreme Court to ensure reservation to schedule caste, schedule tribe and backward classes in Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) and Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI), Delhi. Answering a question regarding giving constitutional status to National Backward Classes Commission during debate on 123th amendment bill, Thaawarchand Gehlot, Union Minister of Social Justice & Empowerment said Aligarh Muslim University and Jamia Millia Islamia New Delhi are central universities, but due to their minority status, reservation to schedule caste, schedule tribe and backward classes is not available.

Government mill move to Supreme Court to provide them reservation as these are central universities, he said.
