Indian First Ladies-AratiSaha – First Indian woman to swim across the English Channel

She was the first woman in India to receive Padma Shri award in 1960. She lived a short but an illustrious and eventful life. Her inspiration was an Indian swimmer, Mihir Sen. She achieved the landmark in 1959 and became the first Asian woman to swim across the English Channel. The Department of Posts celebrated her conquest and brought out a postage stamp of ₹ 3 denomination.

She was honored with INDIAN WOMEN ACHIEVERS AWARD by the President of India on January 20, 2018 at New Delhi.
