New Delhi, May 4, 2023: Femina Miss India 2023 First Runner Up Shreya Poonja visited her alma mater Delhi University’s Deshbandhu College from where she has done her graduation in Economics. She was given a warm and rousing welcome at the college. She met with students and shared her success mantra with them. She also met with the college Principal Prof Rajiv Aggarwal. Prof Aggarwal said,”I congratulate Shreya Poonja, an alumna of the 2021 batch, Deshbandhu College for winning the Femina Miss India 1st Runner up crown. She has done her alma mater proud.”
“I owe my success to my college and the values I received here,” said an emotional Shreya.
Going down the memory lane, she said that she had always cherished the foundation of confidence she built while being in college.
The Delhi University Students’ Union(DUSU) had made elaborate arrangements for the welcome of Shreya Poonja in the college. Shreya’s achievement inspired the current students of the college who were excited to meet the beauty queen.
Shreya shared with the students that the most important thing is to be truly happy with what you do and not let short term wins or defeats sway you away. She told the students to have a clear vision of why you want to do something and then work towards it every second of every day. Soon things are bound to work your way. “Do not get impatient with the results of your efforts. Please know that it is not the win but the habit of pushing yourself to the limit that will in time bear fruit,” she said.
Earlier in the day Shreya also visited St Anthony’s Senior Secondary School in Hauz Khas from where she did her schooling.
While congratulating Shreya the school’s Principal Sr. Daisy said, “You have proven to the world that anything is possible if you put in enough effort and dedication. We know how much passion and commitment it took to get here, and we at St. Anthony’s are all so proud of your success. You are not only an inspiration to every student at St. Anthony’s Senior Secondary School, Hauz Khas, but also to every young adult in India.”
Reena Jose, English teacher at St Anthony’s for the last 30 years said, “As a young child at St. Anthony’s I saw Shreya’s passion and initiative in all school activities, be it as the Class Prefect or at mentoring her House Competitions by a sweeping win over other candidates and bagging the most coveted position as ‘St Mary’s House Captain’ or be it at academics.”
Shreya is very grounded despite her achievement and gives credit to her parents – mother Bharti Poonja and father Sanjay Poonja – for the feat.
“Talking about her future plans, she said: “I have always been in love with the camera, for as long as I can remember! I am keenly interested in the entertainment and show business and have already been working in the same since I was 17. I’m looking forward to commencing work soon.”
