Aadhaar-PAN Linking Date Extended till August 31

Income Tax Return to be Processed Only After The Two Are Linked

New Delhi, July 31: The Central Board of Direct Taxes on Monday announced that the last date for tax-payers to link their respective Aadhaar cards to PAN has been extended till August 31. It further added that the process for Income Tax Return shall begin once the Aadhaar-PAN linking is completed.

The Ministry of Finance said that the ‘actual linking of PAN with Aadhaar can be done subsequently, but anytime before August 31, 2017’. It further added that the returns will not be processed until the linkage of Aadhaar with PAN is done. The government also earlier on Monday extended the deadline for filing Income Tax Returns till August 5.

An Outlook report on Monday quoted Revenue Secretary Hasmukh Adhia who emphasised that failing to link the Aadhaar to the PANs will lead to cancellation of the PAN card. Initially the Revenue Secretary rubbished the claims of an extension of the deadline to file the Income Tax Returns, which had to be extended till August 5. Similarly, flexibility was shown regarding the deadline for linking the Aadhaar and PAN.
