New Delhi: In a shocking incident reported from Uttar Pradesh, a 22-year-old pregnant woman died yesterday evening after she was mercilessly beaten up by the police for allegedly hiding liquor around her belly.
According to the sources, the villagers allege that Ruchi Rawat who was pregnant died after she was beaten up with sticks during a police raid for fake liquor.
But the Police, however, states the woman died of a heart attack.
Around five Policemen went to Barabanki on Sunday after they received a tip-off of fake liquor sale in her Ruchi’s village.
Her family is reported to flee the village while she was left behind due to her state.
The Policemen allegedly beat Ruchi with sticks when she was trying to flee.
Ruchi was kicked in the stomach claimed a woman.
The Policemen escaped when the angry mob surrounded them after Ruchi died.
Rahul Yadav a senior district official, said Ruchi’s family may have been involved in the illegal liquor trade.
“Three people were arrested and taken to the police station. Two hours later, it was found that a pregnant woman had died. They could have also been involved in the illegal liquor business. They might have tried to escape and in the attempt she died,” Yadav said adding that it is believed that she died in an attempt to run.
Sushil Singh, a police officer, denied the allegations of Policemen involved in Ruchi’s death saying, “The police neither went to her house nor did they have any confrontation with her. All these accusations are completely false.”
The angry villagers now demand murder case to be filed against the Policemen who raided their village for Ruchi’s death.
