All India Consumers Council, Uttarakhand, Doon Citizens Council and Sanyukta Nagrik Sangathan along with other allied organizations including RTI Club and Swatantrata Senani Sangathan celebrated National Consumer Day on 24th December, 2022 at Banquett Hall, Hardwar Road, Dehradun. Maj. Gen. KD Singh, Ex-GOC Sub Area Dehradun was the chief guest and Dr. Brij Mohan Sharma, Chief Functionary SPECS was the guest of honour and Brig. K.G. Behl, President, AICC, DCC & SNS presided over the function. Mr. A.S. Bhatia, Secy. AICC who compered the function welcomed all and told about the importance of the day.
He mentioned about consumers and their rights and what all facilities are available to get those. Consumers should not consider themselves helpless as Govt. has provided different consumer acts and to implement those three tier consumer courts all over the country. On this day we must make people aware about those so that they can take up matters where they are either being cheated or are being denied certain rights.
Brig. K.G. Behl (Retd.), made special reference to adulteration which is rampant in one or the other way. No action is being taken except taking some samples results of which takes time to come. He mentioned of the recent meeting when the chief secy. of the State asked concerned depts. not to wait for reports when adulteration is very obvious. The culprit should be punished on the spot. It will be deterrent to others. He asked them to open more labs in the state for which sufficient funds are available. Brig. Behl mentioned about the fixed charges in electricity bills which need not come as the rates of electricity are fixed on certain items which has no relation to fixed charges.
Mr. Jetendra Dandona, explained how the problems in banks could be resolve, specially where insurance and cyber fraud cases are involved. Dr. Brij Mohan Sharma, Chief Functionary SPECS, the special guest was honoured and gave how small things can cause damages and how to detect various flaws in use of day to day life. He said that he had done studies in different fields, he requested people to be vigilant and use only those products which keep them healthy and offered his services for testing various products.
Mr. B.S. Bajaj, gave in his own style what various defects are and how those can be tackled.
In his address the Chief Guest Maj. Gen. KD Singh (Retd.) mentioned about the limitations of the Govt. and how public can help in resolving many of the consumer problems. He suggested that in the month of October he should hold some consumer awareness quiz etc amongst the students to increase awareness about the consumer system.
Mr. S. Dhan of RTI along with RTI Secy. Mr. Ygyamohan Sharma gave cases where cheating is being done in banks and also electricity bills which affect the consumers badly especially in security and other matters.
A large number of members attended the function, prominent amongst those were Yashvir Arya, Mukesh Narayan Sharma, Neeraj Kumar, JS Madan,AS Bahwna, Awdhesh Sharma, Dinesh Bandhan and others.
