Akali workers protest in Delhi against farm laws; several roads closed, check alternate routes

Several roads in Delhi closed in view of farmers protest

The Delhi Traffic Police have closed the Jharoda Kalan border in view of farmers’ protests. A multi-layer barricading has been placed at the border and heavy police contingents have been deployed in the vicinity to check any untoward incident. Police said that officials have been directed to enhance patrolling in the area.

“The Jharoda Kalan border has been closed using barricades, in view of farmers’ protest,” Delhi Traffic Police tweeted.

Traffic police suggested people to avoid Gurdwara Rakabganj Road, RML Hospital, G.P.O., Ashoka Road, Baba Kharak Singh Marg in view of the protest.

The road from Sardar Patel Marg to Dhaula Kuan has been closed for traffic due to the farmers movement. Police asked Delhiites to refrain from using this route. Accordingly, the traffic coming from Gurugaon to Sardar Patel Marg and the traffic coming from Narayan to Loop have also been diverted towards Ring Road Moti Bagh.

Farmers have said that they will take out a protest march against the Centre’s three farm laws on Friday, marking the completion of one year of the legislations being passed in Parliament. The Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) has also given a call for protest. The party has said that march will be taken out from Gurdwara Rakabganj Sahib to the Parliament building. The march would be led by SAD President Sukhbir Badal and former Union minister Harsimrat Kaur Badal.

The three agriculture laws, which the farmers have been protesting against for several months now, were passed in Parliament on September 17, 2020 and the SAD minister had resigned from the Union Cabinet in protest.
