Kanhaiya Kumar, Shehla Rashid, Jignesh Mevani and Tehseen Poonawalla tolaunch a sustained campaign against the cultural terrorism
Three years of Modi government have brought undescribable misery for common people, owing to ill-conceived policy moves such as demonetisation which has completely failed to curb black money or corruption; the imposition of GST which has meant higher taxes for everyone without any improvement in services or governance and now, the blanket ban on sale of cattle which has no basis except to create communal polarisation in the country. Not only does the move pose a threat to farmers who are already struggling to survive debts and droughts, the move has triggered unrest across the country and has divided the country on regional lines. It has provoked reactions in the form of beef festivals, etc. which are then countered by the RSS and Sangh Parivar by blatant violence, as if the law and the Constitution do not exist in our country anymore.
The last photo of Mohammed Naeem, with his hands folded, begging for mercy, is a brutal reminder of Qutubuddin Ansari’s picture from 2002 Gujarat riots. An auto-rickshaw driver who tried to stop some people from urinating publicly was lynched in cold blood. Tribals (Bakarwals) who have, for centuries, been occupied with cattle rearing, were lynched in Jammu. The images of four Dalits from Modi’s Gujarat who were stripped and thrashed in Una triggered protests which caused the Gujarat Chief Minister to step down and the Prime Minister to issue a half-hearted statement to the effect that “gaurakshakhs should not attack Dalits, but attack me (Modi) instead.” Such a statement shows that the Prime Minister has no control over the lynch mob, and has failed to uphold the rule-of-law. Why should anyone kill anyone else?
Mob lynchings have become the order of the day, and interest groups that enjoy the patronage of the government are letting loose their terror on innocent people in the country. The government is either directly responsible for this murderous situation in the country or is entirely incapable of handling the situation.
Modi govt is provoking frenzy throughout the country in order to hide its failure to:
a) create new jobs
b) boost the economy
c) curb black money
d) ensure safety of women
e) reign in environmental pollution
f) secure more jobs for Indians abroad
g) bring in more investment in crucial sectors
h) ensure safety of Indians abroad
i) respect norms of federal governnance
j) check massive downsizing in the IT sector
k) check insurgencies and unrest in various parts of the country
l) establish peace, harmony and dialogue in Kashmir
In this regard, we are holding a Press Conference on Monday, the 5th of June at 12 pm at Speakers’ Hall, Constitution Club, announce the launch of a sustained campaign against the cultural terrorism in the form of mob lynching that is poisoning our country and being encouraged by people in positions of power. We will put out an action plan to compel the Prime Minister to respond to this crisis and act to uphold the rule of law and the Constitution. The announcements will be made public at the P.C. You, as media personnel and as concerned citizens, are requested to attend, participate in, and cover the P.C.
