In a ‘Bhai Dooj’ gift for women, the Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) board has approved Delhi government’s scheme for free travel for women in DTC and cluster buses. Under Arvind Kejriwal-led Delhi government’s scheme for free travel for women passengers, pink tickets will be issued to women passengers. The scheme has been approved till March 2020 and it will be rolled out on 29th October, PTI reported. The Delhi cabinet had given its nod to the free-ride scheme last month.
“The DTC board has approved free travel for women in its buses. It has also given a go-ahead to procure 300 electric buses,” PTI quoted sources as saying.
Here is all you need to know about the free ride scheme for women in DTC and cluster buses in Delhi:
1) Women travelling in DTC and cluster buses will be given pink tickets having face value of ₹10 each.
2) The government will then reimburse the transporter based on the number of such tickets issued.
3) As per estimates, the government will spend ₹140 crore on the implementation of the scheme, PTI reported.
4) The scheme is voluntary and women travellers can choose to not avail it.
