The Lucknow-Delhi Tejas Express, the first Railways train to be run by its subsidiary Indian Railway Tourism and Catering Corporation (IRCTC), will begin operations from October. The train will run six days a week, except on Tuesdays. It will have stoppages at Ghaziabad and Kanpur. The other Tejas train, which will also be operated by IRCTC, the Ahmedabad-Mumbai Tejas Express is expected to start operations in December. This is for the first time that IRCTC will be fully in charge of the train services. The train’s fare will be 50% less than that of flights on the same route, news agency PTI reported.

1) IRCTC will have the flexibility to fix fares on Tejas, a railway official said.

2) There could be different charges for tickets. For instance, some tickets may be capped at a fixed price, while some others may follow dynamic or flexible pricing.

3) The Tejas Express train ticket prices will be lesser than flights. The fares will be around 50% less than the price of flight tickets on the same route even during the peak season, PTI reported.

4) These trains will neither offer concession, nor quota to any passengers.

5) Children above the age of five years will be given no concession and they will also be charged a full fare.

The Tejas Express will have aircraft-like personalised LCD entertainment-cum-information screens, on-board Wi-Fi facility, comfortable seats, mobile charging points, personalised reading lights, modular bio-toilets and sensor tap fittings. The seats will have an orange and yellow colour scheme that will match the exteriors of the train.
