Sridevi dies after cardiac arrest in Dubai, autopsy complete, body to be flown to India tomorrow: Updates
Actor Sridevi died on Saturday night after a cardiac arrest in Dubai, according to family sources. The actor, who has two daughters Janhavi and Khushi, was reportedly with her husband Boney Kapoor and Khushi Kapoor in the UAE. The actor was 54 and had gone there to attend the wedding ceremony of nephew, Mohit Marwah. Sridevi was called the first female superstar of Bollywood and has worked in over 250 films in various languages in her career spanning almost 45 years. Her last release was Mom in 2016.
According to Indianexpress.com, Sridevi’s brother-in-law, Sanjay Kapoor, was quoted as saying, “Yes, it is true that Sridevi passed away. I just landed here, I was in Dubai and now I am flying back to Dubai. It happened roughly around 11.00-11.30. I don’t know more details yet.”
10:02pm: Sridevi’s body could not be repatriated on Sunday as the final investigation reports from Dubai Police were not ready by late evening, officials dealing with the legal formalities were quoted by the report.
Officials also said that as per usual protocols, these tests take up to 24 hours in the case a person has died outside a hospital in Dubai. The same safety and administrative protocols are being followed by the police in this case as well.
10:00pm: UAE officials have revealed that Sridevi’s autopsy has been completed and the family is now awaiting laboratory reports conducted by the General Department of Forensic Evidence, Dubai, Khaleej Times reported.
9.30pm: An official statement from Sridevi’s family has been released. The statement reads, “Boney Kapoor, Jhanvi, Khushi and the entire Kapoor, Ayyappan and Marwah family is deeply bereaved and shocked with the untimely loss of Sridevi Kapoor. They thank the entire media for their prayers, support and sensitivity during their time of grief. Late Sridevi Kapoor’s body will arrive in India tomorrow.”
Khaleej Times has also reported that Sridevi’s body will not be released on Sunday night as per authorities.
9.00 pm: Mahesh Babu’s wife Namrata Shirodkar wrote on Instagram, “Closely associated with my married family …made innumerable films with my father in law .. remembering her with only love and respect.gone too soon…:( sending her soul love and light.”

8.45 pm: “Those eyes, that smile and that immense talent was a big part of my childhood. Thank u for the inspiration n memories Sriji. There never was, and never will be anyone like u, the movies have lost one of their biggest and brightest stars today, but you will live on in our hearts,” wrote Sonakshi Sinhaalong with a tribute video.
