11th November, New Delhi: India is a country of diverse culture and traditions. Indira Gandhi National Centre for the Arts, Ministry of Culture, GOI, works towards preservation, documentation and dissemination of the distinctive Indian culture. Amongst the numerous unique cultures one such tradition is ‘Guru-Shishya Parampara’ which has been part of the Indian culture since time immemorial. In order to celebrate this unique tradition Indira Gandhi National Centre for the Arts started “Deeksha: Guru- Shisya Parampara” celebrations. “Guru- Shishya Parampara” is one such custom which represents a succession of teachers and disciples where the ‘Shishya’ remains with the ‘Guru’ as a family member and learns from the ‘Guru’ as a devoted learner. Indira Gandhi National centre for the Arts in collaboration with Centre for Indian Classical Dances is going to organize ‘Deeksha Mahaotsav’ to celebrate the life journey of Dr. Sonal Mansingh, Guru, Scholar, Thinker, Padma Vibhushan, Member of Parliament, Rajya Sabha. The honoured guest at the event will be Dr. Karan Singh, former Member of Parliament, Rajya Sabha and Ustad Amjad Ali Khan, eminent Indian classical ‘Sarod’ player. The event is going to take place on 12th and 13th November, 2022 in two sessions. The morning session will begin from 10.00 AM in “Samvet” auditorium of IGNCA and the evening session will start at 06.00 PM in the “Unmukt”amphitheatre of IGNCA.
The event “Deeksha: Guru Shishya Parampara” will begin with lamp lighting and opening remarks by Dr. Sonal Mansingh and Swati Bhise. There will be panel discussions in the morning sessions on both days which would be moderated by Dr. Sachidanand Joshi, Member Secretary, IGNCA, Prof. Malashri Lal, Shri Ashish Khokar, Smt. Kumud Diwan and other eminent intellectuals. In the evening session’s cultural presentations such as Bharatanatyam, Dashavatar will be presented by disciples of Dr. Sonal Mansingh as a tribute to their ‘Guru’.
