Meerut, Dec 13: 57-year-old Anangpal Singh, librarian and information assistant at Delhi university’s Sri Aurobindo College, was hacked and then shot to death in Meerut on Monday. Singh used to commute to Delhi from Meerut every day for work. He was on his way to Delhi when he was attacked by six people near the Meerut Cantt railway station as onlookers watched in horror.
Anagpal Singh had been working at Sri Aurobindo College for past 36 years. The eyewitness said that when Singh was parking his bike, some people pulled over in a car and attacked him with sharp weapons before shooting at him at Jituali trisection under Kankerkhera police station. Singh died on the spot.
The family of the victim alleged that Anagpal Singh was attacked because of his son’s love marriage, which was opposed by the girl’s family. The victim’s brother said that the assailants made to look it like an accident by running over the body of Singh. However, the postmortem report cleared that it was a case of murder since the victim had bullet marks on his body.
