5 Muslim MLAs, 11 Yadav MLAs May Jeopardise Nitish Kumar’s Plan to Pass Floor Test

Patna, July 29: Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s plan to sail through the floor test in Bihar Assembly smoothly might be jeopardised as some of his MLAs have opposed the decision to join hands with Bharatiya Janata Party. Five Muslim MLAs and 11 Yadav MLAs have opposed Nitish’s move and might prove to be a game changer in today’s floor test, reports said.

Nitish broke away from the Mahagathbandhan and resigned on Wednesday only to be sworn in as the Chief Minister of Bihar sixth time with the support of the BJP on Thursday. Going by sheer numbers, Nitish will be able to prove majority on the floor of the House if he can keep his MLAs together. The Janata Dal United has 71 MLAs and BJP along with his allies has 58 MLAs taking the number to 129 in the 243-member Assembly. It is also claiming the support of three Independent MLAs taking the number to 132, surpassing the magical number of 122.

Former JDU chief Sharad Yadav has opposed Nitish’s decision to break away from the Mahagathbandhan and join forces with the BJP again after four years. Another senior JDU leader Anwar Ali has also expressed his unhappiness over Nitish’s move.
