Negative effects of air conditioners on your health. We stay in air conditioned offices all day and we stay in well air-conditioned rooms all night. The perpetual staying inside such cold temperatures may be relieving you of your sweat-fits but is sure not healthy. Air conditioners may not be the best option for your health when it comes to cooling off.
Illness and constant fatigue-Shivering at your office desk in mid-July? That might be the reason you are so tired. Research shows that people who work in over air-conditioned environments may experience chronic headaches and fatigue. Those who work in buildings which are constantly being pumped full of cool air may also experience constant mucous membrane irritation and breathing difficulties. This leaves you more vulnerable to contracting colds, flu’s and other illnesses.
No cross-ventilation and lack of fresh air: When our rooms are air conditioned, we shut the doors so that the air inside remains cool. We close the windows and every possible source of air to restrict fresh air from outside because we don’t want the room to get warmer below our liking.
Pull out moisture from your skin-AC pulls out all the moisture from your surroundings, it can also pull out good moisture from your skin , leaving it flaky and stretched. As a result of lack of moisture, your skin also begins to lose its elasticity, becoming prone to creases and wrinkles.
This, in turn, fastens ageing. It also makes the skin prone to other skin disorders.
Inability to deal with heat- Those who spent a lot of time in an air conditioned environment become increasingly more intolerant of hot summer temperatures. This is mainly caused by the stress on your body from moving from a cool environment to the sweltering outdoor air.
This intolerance of the heat has lead to an increase heat related deaths during heat waves, which now averages at 400 deaths each summer.
Breathing problems-Though your car’s AC may be a saving grace while stuck in traffic on a hot day they are the worst offenders for circulating germs and micro-organisms that cause breathing problems. Researchers at Louisiana State Medical Center found eight types of mould living inside 22 out of 25 cars tested. Air conditioners are also known to circulate air-borne diseases such as Legionairre’s Disease, a potentially fatal infectious disease that produces high fever and pneumonia.
