Lucknow, Nov 15: From February 6 next year (2018), the students appearing for class 10 and class 12 Uttar Pradesh board exams will have to carry their Aadhaar cards along with admit cards to sit in the board exams. A directive was issued to all the principals of Uttar Pradesh schools to take steps to get Aadhaar cards made for all the students appearing for intermediate and high school exams.
According to the reports, the students, who fail to carry their Aadhaar cards, will not be allowed to sit for the exams. However, if a student, not having an Aadhaar number, fails to appear in the exam, it will be the principal’s responsibility. With this directive in place, it is speculated that the the number of students appearing in the UP board exams will be lesser than the students who appeared in previous years.
Not only this, all students at the time of registration in class 9 will have to display their Aadhar card. “The government wants to link students with Aadhar so that each students has his own identity. Aadhar number will be helpful in curbing fraudulent registrations at class IX and XII and during form filling exercise for class X and XII,” UPMSP secretary Shail Yadav was quoted as saying by TOI.
Earlier, the Aadhaar number was made mandatory for class 10 and 12 registration. The Uttar Pradesh Board of Secondary Education, which conducts board exams in the state, had also directed district inspector of schools (DIOS) to enter the Aadhaar details of every student along with the U-DISE code of their school while registration. Filing of examination forms had begun in July.
