New Delhi, Oct 30: In a move aimed at improving the quality of education in state madarsas, the Uttar Pradesh government has decided to introduce National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) books in the Islamic educational institutions.
Uttar Pradesh deputy chief minister Dinesh Sharma said that the state Madarsa board is preparing to provide students with books based on NCERT syllabus, which is followed by CBSE schools, to Madarsa students
Sharma also announced that subjects like Mathematics and Science have been made compulsary in Madarsas.
“After approval from the state government, Uttar Pradesh Madrasa board has started preparations to teach students from NCERT books,” the minister said in his tweet.
The Yogi Adityanath government had allocated about Rs 1,700 crore towards minorities’ welfare in the state’s budget for 2017-18
The government earmarked Rs 394 crore towards imparting modern education in recognised madarsas and elementary schools.
The Yogi Adityanath government had in September blocked grant provided to 46 madarsas of the state after they were found no following the standards set by the education department.
The Uttar Pradesh government gives grant to over 550 madarasa across the state.
