New Delhi, 3rd September 2024: In a powerful display of artistic expression and collective concern, the students of IMM Business School today organised a half-day event aimed at raising awareness about the disturbing rise in violent crimes, particularly rapes and murders, that continue to challenge the fabric of our society.
The event, which took place on the IMM Business School campus, saw students passionately expressing their anguish and sorrow through poetry, skits, and speeches. The initiative was a response to the growing hurt among young people about these heinous acts, as the nation marches toward the vision of a “Viksit and Samridh Bharat.”
This event was carefully curated to ensure that it remained free from any political, religious or communal overtones. Instead, it focused on the raw emotions and the urgent need for societal introspection and action. The students used their performances to channel the pain felt by millions, highlighting the importance of empathy, awareness, and a collective resolve to combat these issues.
Adding depth to the event, it was addressed by senior journalist Mr. Onkareshwar Pandey and Mrs. Reshika Dhawan, a seasoned expert in the Prevention of Sexual Harassment (POSH). Mr. Pandey brought his vast experience in media and societal issues to the discussion, offering a journalistic perspective on the role of the media in shaping public discourse around such crimes. Mrs. Dhawan, with her extensive background in POSH, provided critical insights into the importance of creating safe and respectful environments, both in educational institutions and the broader society, not just in law but also in the moral aspects of social life that India has always stood for.
One of the key messages conveyed during the event was the critical role of education and societal values in shaping a future where such crimes no longer have a place. The performances were a poignant reminder of the work that remains to be done to protect the dignity and safety of every individual in India.
Speaking at the event, Dr. Dilip Nandkeolyar, Director IMM Business School emphasised the importance of youth engagement in societal issues. “Our students have used their voices today not just to express their sorrow, but to call for a united front in addressing the rising tide of violence and degradation in our society. Their art reflects the deep concern that we all share as citizens of this great nation.”
The event concluded with a moment of silence, as attendees reflected on the gravity of the situation and the importance of continued efforts to raise awareness and inspire change.
