New Delhi, Oct 27: If everything goes according to plan, Delhi Metro stations will soon have a new entry-exit system in place. The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DRMC) is planning to adopt an ‘open gate’ policy to increase the footfall of passengers.
According to reports, the DMRC is working on a plan to keep the Automatic Fare COllection (AFC) gates open to facilitate entry of more passengers. The move could increase the entry and exit of passengers at Metro stations by nearly 65 percent.
In the new system, the flaps will remain open throughout and only close if a passenger tries to enter or exit the system without touching a smart card or token on the reader of the gate, a report in The Times of India said.
he DMRC had recently introduced the open gate policy at select stations on trial basis to gauge response from passengers.
A DMRC official said that initially passengers took time to get used to the open gate system but later on the response was positive.
