Lucknow, Oct 27: Uttar Pradesh election panel may announce state’s civic polls on Friday. The state commission will address a press conference in the state’s capital at 3:45 pm, where it can announce the elections. State Election Commissioner SK Agarwal will speak to the media in the press conference. The model code of conduct will come into force after the presser if the poll panel announces polls in the evening.
All the parties including BJP, Congress, BSP and SP are gearing up for the elections to 653 urban local bodies including 16 municipal corporations. The UP government created two new municipal corporations– Mathura-Vrindavan and Ayodhya– ahead of the polls.
The Uttar Pradesh State Election Commission is also preparing for the civic polls in the country’s most populous state. It recently said that the voters will get local results on their mobile phones. The voters will have to register their phone numbers at the poll panel’s website. The results will also be available on State Election Commission’s mobile application.
State Election Commissioner S K Agarwal said the initiative is first of its kind. “This is for the first time that we are registering mobile numbers of voters and would send out result updates in tandem with counting at each booth,” The Times of India quoted Agarwal, as saying.
