New Delhi, 12th June 2024 – The Indira Gandhi National Centre for the Arts (IGNCA), Kala Darshana Division, successfully hosted an exclusive Art Exhibition featuring works by eminent Russian artists from the collection of Abhay K, a distinguished writer, poet, artist, and diplomat. The event was a grand celebration of Russia Day, reflecting the strong cultural ties between India and Russia.
The exhibition was inaugurated by Mr. Roman Babushkin, Minister Counselor and Deputy Chief of Mission, Embassy of the Russian Federation, at 4:00 PM on 12th June 2024. The occasion was graced by the presence of Dr. Sachchidanand Joshi, Member Secretary of IGNCA.
The exhibition showcased contemporary Russian artists’ paintings, prints, and photographs, highlighting the quintessential essence of Russia. These artworks symbolized the creative journey of Russian artists and reflected modern trends prevalent in the Russian contemporary art scene.
In his message, Dr. Sachchidanand Joshi, Member Secretary of IGNCA, expressed, “It was a matter of great pleasure that IGNCA celebrated Russia Day on 12th June 2024. The Art Exhibition featuring eminent Russian artists was a testament to the deep cultural connections between Bharat and Russia. These artworks manifested the creative journey of Russian artists and modern trends in the Russian contemporary art scene.”
Dr. Joshi further emphasized the historical and cultural ties between India and Russia, mentioning, “Bharat shares strong cultural ties with Russia. Renowned Russian artist Nicholas Roerich, famous for painting the beautiful Himalayas, had settled in Himachal Pradesh. Indian cinema and Yoga are popular in Russia. IGNCA has undertaken translation work of Russian texts and is committed to encouraging further exchange of cultural and academic activities between the two countries.”
He also expressed gratitude towards Mr. Roman Babushkin for inaugurating the exhibition and appreciated the efforts of the Kala Darshana Division of IGNCA in curating the exhibition, saying, “I am sure that the exhibition was a visual delight for art lovers.”
The event served as a significant cultural exchange platform, emphasizing the importance of celebrating friendship through culture and arts. The exhibition ran successfully from 12th to 18th June 2024, attracting art enthusiasts and fostering cultural understanding between the two nations.
