Uttarkashi, Oct 20 (PTI) The sacred portals of Gangotri dham in the Garhwal Himalayas in Uttarakhand were closed for devotees today amid proper rituals.
The temple doors were closed at 11.40 AM on the occasion of Annakoot festival today for six months, a temple official said.
Goddess Ganga left in a flower bedecked palanquin on the shoulders of devotees at 11.55 AM for Mukhba village, her winter abode where she will be worshipped till the reopening of the temple gates.
The famous Himalayan temple is closed every year for the winters when it remains snowbound.
