New Delhi, October 11: In a good news for teachers and equivalent academic staff in Universities, colleges and centrally funded technical institutions, the Narendra Modi Cabinet on Wednesday approved their revised pay scales following the implementation of recommendations of the 7th Central Pay Commission. The decision will benefit 7.58 lakh teachers and equivalent academic staff in the 106 Universities, colleges which are funded by the University Grant Commission and Ministry of Human Resource Development.
“Teachers of all centrally funded deemed universities and 43 central universities to get benefit of 7th Pay Commission. 7.58 lakh teachers in universities to get benefits of 7th Pay Commission. The minister said that Associate and associate professors of 329 state universities and 12,912 colleges will get benefit of the 7th Pay Commission.
The revised pay package will cover teachers of 119 Centrally Funded Technical Institutions viz. IITs, IISc, IIMs, IISERs, IIITs, NITIE etc. The approved pay scales will be applicable from January 1, 2016 with a financial liability on the Centre of about Rs 9,800 crore.
The implementation of the pay revision will enhance the teachers’ pay in the range of Rs 10,400 and Rs 49,800 as against the extant entry pay due to the implementation of the 6th Central Pay Commission for the pay of teachers. The revision would register an entry pay growth in the range of 22 per cent to 28 per cent.
In the case of state government funded institutions, the revised pay scales will require adoption by the respective state governments. The Centre will bear the additional burden of the states on account of revision of pay scales.
