New Delhi, Oct 7: The board examination for Class 10 in Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) will be reintroduced as part of the ongoing reforms in the education system, Union Human Resource Development Minister Prakash Javadekar said on Friday. Currently, the students studying in CBSE-affiliated schools had the option to either choose board exams or school-based exams.
Prakash Javadekar also announced that exams would be conducted in class 5 and class 8. He said that students who fail the term-end examinations would be detained. However, before detaining them, the education board would give them a chance to improve and appear for another examination.
Under the current CBSE system, students till standard Class 8 are promoted to next level irrespective of their performance or score in the previous classes. Javadekar also said that at least 25 states have approved the central government’s move.
Earlier in the day, the Ministry of Human Resource Development (HRD) advised the state education boards and Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) to discontinue spiking of marks in Class 10 and Class 12 board exams from next year (2018). “The practice of awarding grace marks should continue to pass their borderline cases (students who are failing by a few marks)” said Education secretary Anil Swarup.
