Kejriwal to meet Kamal Haasan today, AAP could be launch pad for actor’s political career

Days after veteran actor Kamal Haasan hinted at launching his own political outfit, Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal will meet the south Indian superstar in Chennai on Thursday.

The meeting has triggered speculation that Kejriwal is likely to offer Haasan the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) platform to pursue his career in politics.

The 62-year-old actor has so far kept his fans guessing about his future political move though he has indirectly ruled out joining the BJP.

“My colour is definitely not saffron. That much I can say now,” he had said after meeting Kerala chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan in Thiruvananthapuram on September 1.

The meeting had fuelled rumours that Haasan might join the Communist Party of India (Marxist) but those too were dismissed. “I want to be in the middle of things and do not want to lean to any side,” Haasan had said then while praising the communists.

Prior to his meeting with Vijayan, he had also shared a stage with DMK leader MK Stalin. In the recent past, Haasan has been critical of Tamil Nadu’s ruling party, the AIADMK.
