New Delhi: India’s most successful captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni is set to play his 300th one-day international (ODI), as the Men in Blue take on Sri Lanka in their fourth match of the five-match ODI series at the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo on Thursday.
Dhoni is among one of the best wicketkeeper-batsmen to have played the game and the 36-year-old has again and again proved that he is one of the greatest finishers in white-ball formats.
Ahead of the 2019 World Cup, questions have often been raised over Dhoni’s place in the team, with age catching up on him. But the ice cool Dhoni has proved numerous times that he still has a lot of gas left in the tank – his knocks in the last two ODIs against Sri Lanka stand in testimony.
In the fourth ODI of the series on Thursday, Dhoni will become the sixth Indian to join the 300 ODIs club. Batting great Sachin Tendulkar (363) leads the all-time list, which also has Rahul Dravid (344), Mohammad Azharuddin (334), Sourav Ganguly (311) and Yuvraj Singh (302).
As Dhoni completes the triple century of ODI appearances, we take a look at the numbers he has stacked up in ODIs so far.
-In 299 matches so far, Dhoni has scored 9608 at an average of 51.93 with 10 centuries and 65 fifties.
-His highest score is an unbeaten 183 against Sri Lanka at Jaipur on October 31, 2005.
-He has 99 ODI stumpings in his name, which is joint most with Kumar Sangakkara.
