Mughals, Taj Mahal, And Other Historical Monuments Slashed From #Maharashtra History Textbooks
Mumbai, Aug 9: The Maharashtra State Education Board has slashed chapters on Mughals and Rajputs from the History textbooks for Classes 7 and 9 for the academic year 2017-18. The board has decided to emphasize on the Maratha regime and the Indian warrior king Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. According to the reports, the Maharashtra state board has removed all the separate chapters on Mughals, Rajputs, Muhammad bin Tuqhlaq and Razia Sultana and moved all of them in one single chapter.
The reports also have it that the revised chapters do not contain any mention of the monuments that were built by these mentioned rulers. However, the board has now decided that the History books will now carry chapters on Bofors scam and the Emergency of 1975-1977.
“Akbar was the most powerful king of the Mughal dynasty. When he tried to bring India under a central authority, he had to face opposition. Maharana Pratap, Chand Bibi, and Rani Durgavati struggled against him. Their struggle is noteworthy,” the class 7 History textbooks describe Akbar’s reign. There has been no mention of the currency that was introduced.
The changes in the books were decided in a meeting chaired by the State Education Minister Vinod Tawde at Rambhau Mhalgi Prabodhini.
“The need was felt to update history with modern events.The Mughal history has been reduced. Modern history needs to be incorporated,” Mumbai Mirror quoted Bapusaheb Shinde, member of the history subject committee for textbooks, as saying.
