Greater Noida (01/11/2022): President Droupadi Murmu inaugurated the 7th edition of India Water Week in Greater Noida on Tuesday.
She was welcomed at the inauguration by Governor Anandiben Patel and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. The 7th edition of India Water Week (IWW) has been organized by the Ministry of Water Resources, River Development and Ganga Rejuvenation with the intention of raising awareness, and promoting the conservation and usage water resources in an integrated manner. India Water Week is going to be held until Saturday, Nov 5.
The theme of this year’s Water Week is “Water Security for Sustainable Development and Equity”.The event is set to bring together experts, planners, stakeholders from across the globe to expound upon the issues pertaining to sustainability of water resources development and management on par with sustainable development goals.
During the event, conferences with seminars, panel discussions, side events, exhibitions and cultural programs are set to take place. Partner countries for the event include Denmark, Singapore and Finland.
Addressing the dignitaries and attendees of the inaugural ceremony, President Murmu said that it will be a big challenge to make drinking water available for India’s huge population in the coming years and it is extremely crucial for everyone to work towards this direction.
CM Adityanath stated: “The rivers flowing from the Himalayas bring a lot of silt, no government has tried to channelise those rivers. Uttar Pradesh government has revived more than 60 of the small rivers that dried up.” He also expressed gratitude towards PM Modi for various projects that were successfully implemented in the country over the last years that have managed to provide households with drinking water.
Union Jal Shakti Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat was also present at the event and said: “We have been working on dam rehabilitation & improvement program for years; India has successfully established itself in this regard as we enter into the program’s 2nd phase”.
Besides the main events, India Water Week will also boast several side events organized by young Professionals, World Bank, School Children, ICID, IWRS, NGOs etc. who are laser-focused on working towards conservation and management of this precious natural resource.
Additionally, a special side event will be organized by Denmark.
