Shopian Encounter: Two Armymen, Including Major, Martyred; Three Terrorists Trapped
Srinagar, Aug 3: An Army major, Kamlesh Pandey, and a jawan has been martyred in a gunbattle between security forces and terrorists in Zaipora village of Shopian district in south Kashmir on Thursday. Three other jawans are said to be injured as the encounter continues in the region. As per the latest reports, three militants are said to be holed up in a building in the area, a media report claims. The operation, which is currently underway, began after the security forces received intelligence inputs about the presence of the terrorists in the area.
In a similar incident, earlier on Wednesday evening, two terrorists were killed in an encounter with the security forces in Kulgam district of Jammu and Kashmir. “Encounter lasted half an hour, eliminated two Hizb-ul-Mujahideen terrorists who were involved in many cases,” SSP Shridhar Patil was quoted as saying.
