ITBP set a unique record to hoist flags on 75 peaks on Independence Day

New Delhi (15/08/2022): Marking the 75 years of India’s Independence, an ‘Amritarohan’ summit mission is being organized by the border guarding mountain trained Force Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) under the aegis of ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav’.

The ITBP has marked 75 such peaks near its 75 Border Out Posts (BOPs) at the India-China border. Out of these, 33 peaks are located in Ladakh, 16 peaks in Uttarakhand, 11 peaks in Sikkim, 10 peaks in Himachal Pradesh and 05 peaks are located in Arunachal Pradesh. The Himveers of the Force have climbed these 75 peaks today morning at 7 AM making an unique record of hoisting the Indian tricolor at 75 peaks simultaneously.

The highest peak is of the height of 18,800 feet in Sikkim. This is one of the historical events in the history of mountaineering in the country. The Force has successfully completed more than 230 mountaineering expeditions till date.

A 75-day relay of Long Range Patrol (LRP) ‘Amrit’ is also being conducted on the Indo-China borders as part of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav. This Relay LRP started from Karakoram Pass in Ladakh on August 01, 2022 and will terminate at Jechap La in Arunachal Pradesh on October 14, 2022 after completing a 75-day journey covering a distance of approx 7,575 Kms.

On Independence Day, the ITBP has organised many programs themed at Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav and Har Ghar Tiranga.

The Force is also celebrating the Independence Day with border population specially with the villagers of vibrant villages in the borders.

Raised in 1962, the ITBP guards the India China borders in extreme weather and terrain conditions. The ITBP has special achievements in the field of adventure sports.
