Patna, July 27: Janata Dal United chief Nitish Kumar takes oath as the Bihar Chief Minister for the sixth time on Thursday. Breaking himself free from the Mahagathbandhan in Bihar, Nitish has once again allied with the Bharatiya Janata Party. BJP’s Sushil Modi took oath as the Deputy Chief Minister of the state in a small ceremony attended by BJP and JDU leaders at Raj Bhavan in Patna.
Nitish’s resignation came just a few hours after Rashtriya Janata Dal chief Lalu Prasad reiterated that his son Tejashwi will not resign from the post of Deputy Chief Minister. He had claimed that Nitish has not sought Tejashwi’s resignation and the alliance will continue. Holding cards close to his chest, Nitish met Governor Keshari Nath Tripathi and tendered his resignation. “In the circumstances that prevail in Bihar, it became difficult to run the grand alliance government,” Kumar had said outside Raj Bhavan after submitting his resignation to the Governor.
After weeks of allegation and counter allegations following the Central Bureau of Investigation chargesheet in which RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav was named in an alleged corruption case, rift deepened in the Grand Alliance. It was reported that Nitish had hinted at Tejashwi’s resignation from the post of Deputy Chief Minister and asked to bring the facts in the public domain.
