Noida, 2 May 2022: In Gautam Buddha Nagar, Uttar Pradesh, a woman named Dr. Reeta Bhattacharya, a woman priest conducted a wedding on 30th April 2021 in Noida Golf course.
After thousand of years with men priests undertaking religious rituals, it appears that women priests have also managed to pave their way into the profession.
Dr Bhattacharya, a Sanskrit scholar and an Indologist, completed the wedding as per vedic tradition with mantras and also explained them in simple language.
The bride and groom, Anindita and Nitesh had desired for their wedding to be a milestone for women empowerment and respect for women in the society. The young couple wished to be blessed by a woman priest to begin their journey of togetherness, which is the symbolic representation of seeking blessings from all mothers including the mother earth.
