PM Modi condoles the demise of Cartoonist Narayan Debnath with deep grief

Kolkata, January 18: Prime Minister, Narendra Modi expressed deep grief in a Tweet over the demise of noted eminent cartoonist Narayan Debnath on Tuesday Morning.

PM Modi, taking to Twitter, said, ”Shri Narayan Debnath Ji brightened several lives through his works, cartoons and illustrations. His works reflected his intellectual prowess. The characters he created will remain eternally popular. Pained by his demise. Condolences to his family and admirers. Om Shanti.”

Narayan Debnath was 98-year-old, passed away at a private hospital in Kolkata at 10.15 am on Tuesday after a prolonged illness.

He was admitted to the private hospital on December 24 and was on ventilator support.

He was The creator of the popular Bengali comic strips of Bantul The Great, Handa Bhonda, Nonte Phonte and many other such characters.

He was the first and only Comics-Artist in India who has received a D. Litt. degree. Debnath was awarded Padma Shri, the fourth highest civilian award in India, in the year 2021.
