General Rawat, an outstanding officer and a thorough gentleman, was the Guest of Honour in the Convocation of the Central Garhwal University on 1st December 2021, where I was Presiding as Chancellor.
He gave an outstanding speech which received a thunderous ovation. It is difficult to accept that this highly decorated soldier is no more.
My heartfelt condolences to the family.

Deeply shocked to learn about sudden, untimely death of Gen Rawat. He was first CDS of Indian armed forces since December 2019.
He had great vision of modernization of army & close integration of joint operations of army ,navy, air force. He was from 11 Gorkha Regiment. His Father Lt Gen Rawat was also from same regiment. He was resident of sector 37, Noida. Indian Army, Gorkha brigade has suffered an irreparable loss. My deep condolences & Shradhanjali. May departed souls rest in peace :
