A girl was killed and at least half-a-dozen others were injured when a low-floor DTC bus lost control and rammed a group of public transport vehicles at Azadpur in north Delhi on Wednesday afternoon, police said.
A tyre burst is suspected to have caused the accident, said Milind Dumbere, DCP (North-west). The bus driver abandoned the vehicle and fled the accident spot, he added.
The accident happened outside the Azadpur metro station where a few e-rickshaws and auto-rickshaws were parked on the roadside.
According to the initial probe, the bus swerved towards the left, ramming two e-rickshaws and one auto. These three vehicles had a few passengers in them at the time of the accident.
Locals rushed to the spot and rescued those trapped in the mangled vehicles. There were a few passengers in the bus, it is yet to be ascertained how many of them were injured.
The DCP said his officers have informed him that a minor girl was brought dead to a nearby hospital. “We are yet to get an update from doctors on the others who were injured,” the DCP said.
With anger brewing among locals and commuters at the accident spot, a police team was deployed to prevent breakdown of law and order.
