NEW DELHI : Keeping in mind the celebrations related to Guru Nanak’s 550th birth anniversary, the Delhi government is now planning to lift odd-even restrictions for traffic for two days on November 11 and 12.

“The government is positively considering to relax odd-even on 11 and 12 in light of this festival,” Delhi Transport Minister Kailash Gahlot told a delegation of Sikh community members who met him yesterday.

“MLA Jarnail Singh, along with a delegation, had come to see us regarding the matter. Some other delegations had also met us over the same. This is a very important festival of the Sikh community,” Gahlot said.

The minister said that the proposal is being discussed and a file will be sent to Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal today.

An official release said that Kejriwal has also received other such requests from around the city. “A large number of sangats visit Delhi during the Guru Parv. If the road rationing scheme is in place during these two days, lakhs of people may have to face a lot of trouble to travel to different parts of the city,” it said.

The release said that the Delhi government is considering the request very seriously so that no one faces any trouble during such a historic and important festival.

Delhi is witnessing odd-even scheme from November 4 and it will continue till November 15 to keep the air pollution in check. Gahlot said the government is thinking of overall exemption on November 11-12 as religious functions will take place on both days.

On November 11, preparations are being made for the grand Nagar Kirtan in the entire city, in which lakhs of devotees are expected to participate. On this occasion, lakhs of people will also visit different gurdwaras throughout Delhi.
