PV Sindhu created history after defeating Japan’s Nozomi Okuhara at BWG World Championships. She overcame Nozomi in straight games by 21-7, 21-7 and thereby ensured her victory at the BWF World Championships 2019 that was held in Basel on Sunday.

After her victory, she was able to bag the much elusive gold medal at BWG World Championships. She could manage to bag only the silver medals in her last two outings. By this victory, the 24 year old PV Sindhu has become the first India to be able to win a gold medal at the BWG World Championships.

‘Last time, I lost in the final, before that also I lost in the final, so it is a very important win for me.I want to thank the crowd for supporting me. I won it for my country and I am very proud being an Indian,’ added Sindhu.

Two years after being robbed off the most-coveted gold by Okuhara in a heroic 110-minute long concluding match that was held at Glasgow that remained as one of the chief matches in badminton record, Sindhu lastly exorcised the ghost of that heart-pulling damage with a triumph over the same rival.

This year’s final match lasted for only 38 minutes and she showed off her sheer dominance and power throughout the match. This victory is her 5th World championships medal and now she jointly holds the record along with Zhang Ning of China for winning the most singles world championship medal.

In an interview, PV Sindhu said that she lost the final battle last time, and before that also she had the same experience. So, she considers this victory as an important one and she also thanked the crowd for supporting her throughout the match. She also said that she feel proud to win the gold at BWG World Championships for her country.

She also thanked her coach Kim and Gopi, along with her supporting staff and she said that she dedicate this victory to her mother on this day of her birthday.
