In fact, the residents of Fazilka in Punjab have started this initiative of sending free saplings upon customer’s requirement. Graduate Welfare Association of Fazilka (GWAF), a Fazilka-based NGO has commenced this service under the name ‘Dial a Tree’.
In this initiative, the NGO has launched a new WhatsApp number. Using the number, the residents of the city can order plant saplings. The customers ordering the sapling will receive it alongside a gardener and manure totally for free of cost. They have actually initiated this service with an intention to revive the green cover of the area and biodiversity actually commenced at 8th Anand Utsav of the city. The NGO intends to offer this service in 24 hours.
Speaking about the same, the former professor of the Indian Institute of Technology [IIT] in Roorkee and patron of GWAF namely Bhupinder Singh said, ‘There are several spots where one or two saplings can be planted and protected. Keeping this in mind, we conceptualized this.’
As per the latest reports, more than 18000 saplings have been planted in the region of Fazilka 7 years back. The ‘Dial a Tree’ initiative is another service that helps the citizens to restore the greenery of the city. If you are willing to plant a sapling then, you can order it right now.
