UP Government Makes Rainwater Harvesting Mandatory For New Buildings

As per latest reports, Uttar Pradesh is another typical place in the northern part of India, which is facing the serious problem of depleting ground water.

This is actually major reason to worry about as the population rate in Uttar Pradesh is also increasing rapidly.

Recently, in a bid to tackle the issues of the depleting ground water level, the government of Uttar Pradesh has stated that it is compulsory for the newly built residential and commercial buildings to have the options for harvesting the rain waters.

While replying to a question of Congress Lawmaker Aditi Singh on the issue, the Rural Development Minister Mahendra Singh stated, ‘All the buildings will be permitted in future after provisions of rainwater harvesting arrangements.’

The minister also mentioned that there are more than 20,000 ponds that have been dug under the scheme of MGNREGA in Uttar Pradesh. A lot of wells are also being restored and there are also various plans to plant trees on the bank of the river so as to retain the ground water.

Last week, the government of Uttar Pradesh government had issued an order to put half-filled glasses of water in the state Secretariat at Lucknow.

Uttar Pradesh’s Chief Secretary Pradip Dubey had said that the Assembly speaker has directed to put only half-filled glasses of water as this will help in people not wasting water.

The order reads, ‘It has been directed by the Assembly Speaker that initially only half-filled glasses of water will be kept in the state secretariat. It is often seen that people do not drink the entire water from the glass.’

The whole country is going through a big water crisis, and Chennai had run out of water for days and water had to be brought in trains from different states.

The people of Rajasthan have also created small ponds in the farms that have helped in bringing a lot of change to the people.
