As many as 15 people are feared dead after the wall of an apartment collapsed on shanties lined against it in Pune’s Kondhwa area early on Saturday morning, 29 June.
Visuals from the scene show several cars stuck in the debris, even as the roofs of the shanties are visibly damaged. According to NDTV, those killed include four children and a woman.
RESCUE OPERATIONS UNDERWAY
According to ANI, a team from the National disaster Response Force (NDRF) is present on the scene and rescue operations are currently underway.
Speaking to ANI, Pune police commissioner K Venkatesham said:
“Our team is investigating the reasons behind the incident. Firm action will be taken against those responsible. We will check whether proper permissions were taken and safety measures were followed.”
MUMBAI WALL COLLAPSES TOO
Meanwhile, Mumbai too saw a wall collapse incident in its Chembur region early Saturday morning. While no casualties have been reported from this incident, several rickshaws and cards were reportedly damaged in the aftermath.
Pune and Mumbai have been witnessing heavy rainfall over the last few days, killing eight persons and injuring over five in rain-related incidents.
