AROH Foundation received the ‘Innovative NGO Project Award’ for its School Sanitation Programme at the Chhattisgarh CSR Leadership Summit organised by India CSR group held at Hotel Babylon Inn in Raipur, Chhattisgarh on 24th August 2018.
The awards were conferred by Shri Brijmohan Agarwal, the Chhattisgarh State Agricultural Minister in recognition of the comprehensive school sanitation programme taken up by the organisation in more than 200 government schools in eight districts of Chhattisgarh.
The innovative project addressed the burning problem of school sanitation in a holistic manner by not only constructing the toilets, but also by renovating old and defunct units and making them functional, thereby saving resources. In addition, an intensive WASH programme was run in each covered school for one year to bring a long-lasting behavioural change in the students. The programme was also being recognised by school administration as a catalyst of change in the lives of children and has greatly helped in improving their health and hygiene indicators.
The program believes that improved sanitation and the provision of other basic amenities will make schools and students happier and healthier, resulting in their better performance. The project was supported by the HDFC Bank as part of its CSR initiatives.
