Residents protest against drug rackets, flesh trade

Gurgaon, Jul 23 Hundreds of residents marched together at MG Road in protest against drug peddling and flesh trade in the region.
The members of various resident welfare associations demanded strict action against those involved in immoral activities like drug peddling, prostitution, illegal solicitation etc.

Haryana PWD Minister Rao Narbir Singh, who was also present at the protest venue yesterday, promised to bring the culprits to book.

We assure to take action against the anti-social elements. The demands will be fulfilled within a few weeks. I will visit here again next week to see whether there has been an improvement, he said.

“We started this programme three years ago. But it was only recently that the political leadership showed interest in our crusade. We are thankful to leaders like Rao Narbir Singh and the police who are keen to stop the immoral acts such as prostitution in pubs and bars etc,” Rajiv Sinha, former president of Essel Towers, said.

The residents also raised the issue of absence of street lights and how two local police stations had failed to curb crime in the region.

They alleged that both the police stations have failed to act on the immoral activities prevalent in the region as they always pass the buck.

They said whenever a crime occurred in the region, the police officials at the respective stations would deny to take responsibility by saying that the crime did not take place under their jurisdiction.

The criminals take advantage of this attitude and get away, the protestors said
