Speculation is rife that the government may make an announcement on the pay soon. It may happen faster if Centre decides to hold general elections earlier than the targetted dates in 2019.
The recent move by the government to announce so many sops including minimum support price (MSP) hike gave hope to the central government employees, the report said adding that an announcement regarding the increase could be made anytime soon.
The tension between around 50 lakh employees and government emerged after the former termed the salary increase recommended by seventh pay commission as insufficient, the report said.
The employees demanded an increase beyond the recommendation asking for a minimum salary of Rs 26,000 along with 3.68 times increase in fitment factor, the report said.
The employees are still hopeful as many state governments including J&K, Tripura and Madhya Pradesh, have already taken steps to give their employees benefits as per the 7th pay commission.
