Nainital: In an important decision Uttarakhand High Court directed the state government to put a curb on sound pollution and industrial pollution. It also banned places of worship from using loudspeaker without permission. Taking serious note of pollution issue spread by an industrial unit in Teerathnagri, Haridwar the Court slapped a fine of 5 Cr on the unit. The direction was issued by a division bench of justices Rajiv Sharma and Lok Pal Singh while hearing a public interest litigation seeking action against a toy factory in Haridwar district, filed by one Mahender Singh.
The petitioner said that an industrial unit is clearing industrial waste in Haridwar which was creating pollution in the area and also polluting the drinking water. The court also issued verdict regarding noise pollution in the state and asked the places of worship not to use loudspeakers without permission.
